May Irene (Renee) Tanton
May 27, 1917 – January 26, 2012
With much love and great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and Nana, Irene (Renee) Mae Tanton in her 95th year. Renee was born in Wetaskiwin Alberta to Evan and Hilda Jevne and moved to the West Coast in her late teens. She lived on Capitol Hill in North Burnaby for over 50 years, and was a member of Ellesmere United Church and Confederation House. She was predeceased by her husbands, Al Beard (1940), and Harry Tanton (1998), and her siblings Evan (Buster) Jevne, Helen Dragon, Inez Jennings, and Harley and Bob Short. She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Ron) McKenzie, son Tom (Carol) Tanton, and five grandchildren – Craig (Sandi), Sharee (Pat), Charles, Emily and Chelsea. She also had five great grandchildren – Ryan (Kathleen), Katie (Matt), Caitlin, Alex and Russell. Renee will be fondly remembered for her youthful spirit, sense of humour and capacity to love. She enjoyed travelling, good music and dancing, and was an excellent seamstress and cook. Renee inspired her family and many friends with her beautiful heart and smile, and amazed everyone with her repertoire of songs and poetry which she entertained us with even as her health deteriorated. A special thanks to Dr. Lang and the staff at St. Michael’s for their compassionate care during her lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11th at 1:00 pm at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, located at 4276 East Hastings Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, support of St. Michael’s Care Centre would be welcomed.
Fly with the eagles momma, until we meet again.

Dear Tom and Carol, Bev & Ron, we are very sorry that we did not attend the memorial service for Rene, but we did not see the obit until today (13th). Rene will be much missed by both Mom and me. Even though we did not see her for the last few years, she was always in our minds and hearts and we grieved the manner of her decline. Please know that you are in our thoughts. Much love, Jan and Nell MacLellan
