Louis Valente

Louis Valente

Louis was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 12, 1928 and he moved with his family to Canada at the age of 3. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my loving husband, dad, papa and uncle. With his children who never left his side it broke our hearts to lose you on December 29th. Louis you did not go alone because part of me went with you  honey. Louis will be greeted with a big bowl of pasta and a glass of wine by his parents, Patsy and Angie;  brother Remo; sister Gloria and other family members and friends who have gone before him. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 59 years; children Louis (Sheryl), Lisa (Greg); grandchildren David, Jennifer, (Trevor), Victoria and Steven; great grandchildren Aiden, Lauren and Benjamin; brother-in-law Ted Smith and sister-in-law Catherine Valente. Louis’s contagious humour and one-liners will be missed by his nieces, nephews and many friends including “The Gang” –  Ramon, Bebe, Duke, Anita, Pat, Cookie, Ernie, Millie and Danny. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, please take a friend for lunch and toast to Louis. Donations can be made to a charity of your choice.  “Many people walk through your life, but few leave footprints on your heart like Louis did.” Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com.

Mrs Valente, you may remember me from Bank of BC/HSBC in the 1980′s and 1990′s at Hastings & Penticton. I was very sorry to hear about Louis, we had many great conversations together and some very enjoyable lunches. He was a lovely man and while sad that he has gone I am pleased that I had the opportunity to know him. He was a gentleman. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
    Peter.

  8. John and Louise Brajcich on January 1st, 2012 3:57 pm

WE remember Louis as the man with the BIG voice, the BIG laugh, the BIG heart. He loved life and all of the things that he experienced, his family, his friends and his community. He will be sadly misssed by all that knew him but his memory will linger on for many years. There will sad days for you but they will be balanced with happy memories of the wonderful experiences you shared with your husband, father , grandfather and great grandfather.
With deepest sympathy for your loss.
    Johnny and Louise

I will always remember meeting Louis Jr.’s parents 50 years ago at Hastings School Parent Teacher night. It was my first year teaching at age 21. Louis’ Dad, with a twinkle in his eye, told me that they just had to come to meet me as Louis Jr. had told them his teacher was only 15 years old. Immediately I could see why Louis Jr. was such a loveable student. When I saw his Dad`s obituary I just had to pass on this memory. I have told this anecdote often and your quotation `Many people walk through your life but few leave footprints on your heart like Louis did“ was most fitting.
Please accept my sympathy for your loss.

    Hello, Dot and family,

I am so sorry to hear about Louis’s passing – what a shock. I will always remember both Dot and Louis popping in to Shoppers Drug Mart with smiles and jokes for our staff. He always told me he was my biggest “fan” before and after masses at St. Helen’s – I sing every Sunday with the 11:30 am choir and I remember his kind complements fondly. I wish you and your family comfort and peace in this time of great sorrow and I will continue to pray for him and your family. He may be gone, but he is never forgotten. We love you, Louis!!
