It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rocco Melchiorre on August 31, 2011 at the age of 81. Rocco was the beloved husband of Rosa, cherished father of Nella (Joe) and Lina (Glenn), loving Nonno of Marleis, Andre, Reid, Jonathan, Jeneca and Anthony. He is predeceased by his parents Michele and Rocchina, his 4 brothers and 1 sister of Italy and brother-in-law Fedele of Vancouver. He will be sadly missed by his sister-in-laws Michelina and Giuseppina, brother-in-law Antonio, cousins, nieces and nephews. Rocco was an avid and talented gardener, an active member of the Over 50 Club of both the Italian Cultural Centre and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Special thank-you to the staff at the BC Cancer Agency and his community health nurse, Miho. Prayers will be offered Tuesday, September 6 at 7:30 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church at 525 Slocan St. Vancouver, BC where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 am. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Abbey Mausoleum, 4000 Imperial St. Burnaby. Donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.

    I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Rocco MElchiorre. I met him about 25 years ago and although we did not meet often, I found him to be a very fine gentleman of the old school.
    He was always very courteous and polite.
    I am saddened to hear of his passing.
