Giuseppe (Joe) Patricelli

July 27, 2011

1936 – 2011

Our beloved nonno, father and husband fought an illness courageously over the past eight years so that he could stay longer with his loving family. That is why it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Giuseppe (Joe / Joseph / Peppino) Patricelli on July 25th. Joe is survived by his wife Raffaella of 46 years, daughters Michelle and Janet, sons-in-law Maurice Jacob and Daryl Simpson, and grandchildren Sebastian, Domenic, Deanna, Sophia and Marco.
Born in San Marco la Catola, Italy on July 13th 1936 to Giovanni and Antonietta (both predeceased), Joe grew up loving his brother Michele (predeceased) and sister Lucia. As a young man, Joe left for Switzerland in search of wages to support his family remaining in Italy. It was there that he had an opportunity to cultivate his varied language skills, learning English, German, French and Spanish. More importantly though, this is where Joe would develop his love of and proficiency at cooking. Joe was far from a material man, but rather a man who measured his worth by the warmth and proximity of his family by his side. He didn’t wait though for official celebrations to give gifts; he gave them daily. Sometimes it was the perfect fig from his garden, handpicked for one of his grandchildren. Sometimes it was a simple lesson in selflessness and humility. Other times it was the simple gift of time given, to his adoring grandchildren. His love for his grandchildren was surpassed only by the love they had for him. His joy of preparing a meal for those close to him was surpassed only by the joy they had savouring it. And the impact he made on his family in life is surpassed only by the impact now felt by his passing.

We love and miss you, Nonno.
