Darleen Kim Milloy
May 16, 2011
MILLOY (Miharija), Darleen Kim December 15, 1963 – May 11, 2011 Darleen passed away May 11, 2011 suddenly but quietly at home. Despite living with chronic progressive multiple sclerosis for almost half her life, Darleen’s happiness and contentment shone on all around her through her unshakable positive attitude and warm personality. She received a BA in economics from Simon Fraser University and an AAT designation from the CMA Society of BC. Her love of the highland bagpipe began at age four after a performance by her cousin, and she never looked back. A successful competitor as a soloist and as a member of first the Vancouver Ladies’ then the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, Darleen received her biggest wins in Scotland just after developing her first symptoms of MS. She continued as a thoughtful teacher and adjudicator after she could no longer play and remained a passionate fan of piping (and the Vancouver Canucks!) all of her life. Darleen was predeceased by her father, John. She is survived by her loving husband, Derek; mother Diane; sister Trish (Steve); brother Rick (Sandy); nephews Matthew, Nicholas, and Adam. We are especially grateful to Minette, Digna, Maribeth, Shirley, and Catherine for their commitment, love, and care over the last few years that helped us maintain Darleen’s health and happiness. A memorial celebration will be held on May 23rd at 1:00 PM at the Firefighters’ Club, 6515 Bonsor Ave., Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MS Society in Darleen’s honour would be welcomed.
