In sadness we announce the passing of Vittorio, born in Anyox, B.C. and passed away at Burnaby Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Anna of 61 years, son Bruno, nephew Vittorio (Bruna) Gazzola and family, sister-in-law Amelia Barichello and family, 2 sisters-in-law and their families in Italy, also many friends in Vancouver, California and Italy. Visitation for friends and relatives from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, B.C. (parking back of funeral chapel off Pender Street). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29th at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby, B.C. Entombment Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum, Burnaby, B.C. In lieu of flowers donations to the Charity of your Choice would be appreciated. Audrey Josephine McCluskey

The full life of Audrey Josephine McCluskey (nee Wood) came to a peaceful end on April 18, 2011. She was born in Birmingham England in 1925, the fifth of ten children. She served in the British Women’s Royal Artillery Corps throughout WW ll. Audrey, or “Joey” as she was known then, gave five years of dedicated active service. With her husband and the first two of five children she immigrated to Canada in 1955, settling in Vancouver.
Audrey was preceded by her husband John in 1987. She will be lovingly remembered by children Richard, James, Rosemary, Joan (Steven), John (Daniele), and seven grand-children, Rhiannon, Camille, Jean¬-Philippe, Leila, Brendan, Jessica and James. Audrey will be sorely missed by her surviving sister, Dorothy (Dolly) brother William, and extended family in the U.K.
She was able to remain at home despite failing health due to the care and assistance of her son Richard and dear friends Paul and Eileen Mosca, Tom Durrie, and many caring neighbors in the Rose Street community where she lived for over 50 years. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff of We-Care, West Coast Health, and Drs. Barzalai and Kline.
A mass celebrating Audrey’s life will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church 2025 Napier St. Vancouver on Friday April, 29th at 1 pm. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park 3789 Royal Oak Ave. Burnaby. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Settimo Paul Merlo

Settimo Paul Merlo passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on April 20th at the age of 75 years. Born in Conteo, Italy in 1935, Paul grew up in Montebelluna before joining his brothers in Canada in 1954. He married Kathryn in 1965 and lovingly raised two daughters. Paul retired after a 35 year career as Bar Manager at the Capilano Golf & Country Club. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 45 years Kathryn, beloved daughters Deborah (Michael) and Adriana (Mathew) and blessed granddaughter Evangeline, sisters Carmela and Elena (Gino), brothers Cesare and Amedeo (Doreen) and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 28th 11:00 a.m. at St. Helen’s Catholic Church 3860 Triumph St. Burnaby. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or St. Michael’s Hospice.

Carmela Pafundi passed away on Monday April 18th, 2011 at the age of 86 years. She is predeceased by husband Rocco and brother Salvatore. She is survived by her loving son Terry (Maria), granddaughter Sandra (Joe), grandson Stephen, sister-in-law Carmela, niece Antonietta, nephew Tony and many nieces, nephews, and friends in Pietragalla Italy where she was born. Prayers will be offered Monday April 25 at 7pm from Holy Family Parish 4851 Beatrice St. Vancouver where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday April 26 at 10am. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park – Abbey Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Siebentje (Sidney) Foster

Sidney passed away peacefully on April 18, 2011 at Christine Morrison Hospice, Mission at the age of 86 years. Sidney was born in Amsterdam and came to Canada in 1946 where she became a long time resident of North Burnaby. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Edward (Ed) Lawrence Nimchuk, age 76, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2011. He will be remembered lovingly by his family. He is survived by his wife Rose, daughter Catherine and sons Ken and Gord. Ed was the Lounge Manager at the old Avalon Hotel in North Vancouver for many, many years. April 2, 1918 – April 11, 2011 “Leda” is predeceased by her loving husband and partner Emilio. She leaves her daughter Lucy, son Louis and daughter-in-law Lynn, granddaughters, Tracey (Kevin) and Shannyn (Jamie), great-grandchildren, and many others with fond memories. She was a good friend, an example to many and a giving member of her community; she will be missed. Predeceased by his brother Gino and sister Maria, both of Italy. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Maria; children Stefania (Mike), Flavio, Sonia (Felice) and Fiorenza (Andy); grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Aaron, Raquel, Lucas, Angelina, Alanna, Swai and Noah; brother Nando (Rina) and three sisters in Italy, Bruna, Angelina and Natalina. Special thank you to Dr. Ward and the staff of Mount St. Joseph Extended Care for their compassionate care and support. Doreen Beverley Matkovich

MATKOVICH, Doreen Beverley October 13, 1941 – April 11, 2011 After a courageous six year battle with breast cancer a very special angel passed from this world to her rightful place in heaven on April 11 2011. Doreen (nee Wagner) was born to Walter and Jean Wagner on October 13, 1941 in Central Butte, Saskatchewan. Doreen is survived by her husband of 46 years and best friend John, son David, daughter Leanne, her mother Jean (age 95), brother Gary/Diane, sister Shirley (Frank), brother/sister-in-law George and Irene, sister-in-law Mary, nephews, nieces and many friends. Her father Walter passed away in 2010 at the age of 92. Doreen graduated from nursing school in Saskatoon in 1962. She moved to Vancouver in 1963 with plans to go to San Francisco to work as a nurse. She was intercepted by John and on May 22, 1965 they were married. Doreen leaves behind many great friends. They will all miss her great smile, kind words and willingness to help at any time. The service will held on Saturday, April 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Gloria Dei Church, 1110 Gladwin Drive, North Vancouver. We would like to thank the staff at Lions Gate Hospital especially Dr. Klimo’s Oncology clinic. We would also like to thank Dr. Parmar and his Naturopathic clinic in Ft. Langley. Donations can be made in Doreen’s name to the Oncology clinic at Lions Gate Hospital’s in North Vancouver.
