It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Raffaele, beloved husband, father and nonno. Predeceased by his father, Nicola Ricci and his mother Antonietta Ricci (Fiorante) and sister-in-law Vicki Ricci. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Jennie, children, Deborah (Mike), Nicholas (Kim), Marina (Ray), Lisa (Egbert) and lovingly missed by his grandchildren, Andrea, Michael, Adrienne, Christopher, Aliza, Sydnee, Taylor, Max and Maddie, sisters Nancy (Duilio), Ginetta (John), brother Vince, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was born in Civitanova Del Sannio. He immigrated to Canada in 1949 and settled in Vancouver. His first love was music and soon became a well known musician in the Italian community. He loved his family more than life itself and in his later years he loved tending to his garden. Ralph was larger than life and everyone who knew him will miss him. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11:30am at Holy Cross Church,1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, South Mausoleum. Nicholas was born in Kiev, Ukraine and passed away peacefully at St. Vincents Langara Hospital, Vancouver, B.C. Predeceased by his daughter Dores Johnston in 1991. Survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter Deanna (Wayne) Smith, and 2 sisters Effe Gorval and Jennie Gorval. She is predeceased by her loving husband Lawrence. Comforted by her loving family, Rina passed away peacefully at the age of 93 years. She had a full and challenging life. Left on her own by the untimely death of her husband Angelo, she worked with courage and with an unwavering faith in God to raise a family of five children. William passed away peacefully at Burnaby General Hospital from complications related to a heart condition.
William was born in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1927. Predeceased by his father William Henry Sr. ,mother, Harriet Ann, his wife Mary Gwynneth; survived by his sons Edwin (Cynthia), Trevor (Sandra) and grandchildren Samara and Jarrett.
William grew up in Vancouver, graduated from John Oliver High School in 1945. He went on to get his degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (1950). He spent the next 43 years in the construction industry working with a variety of electrical contracting companies eventually going on to become president of Houle Electric. Before and after retiring in 1993, he spent much of his time contributing to his field participating in a variety of trade associations including the Electrical Contractors Association, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Amalgamated Construction Association and the Construction Labour Relations Association of BC. In 1994 he was elected into the Electrical Industry Hall of Fame.
William worked on a variety of international projects in England, British Honduras (Belize), Argentina and India. It was during this time that he developed a love for things Spanish which ultimately led him to learn the language. He enjoyed travel, the outdoors, opera and classical music.
He will be missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
Memorial Service to be held: Monday, March 21, 2011, 2:00 p.m., St Margarets of Scotland Anglican Church. 1030 Sperling Ave., Burnaby.
