It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Vincenzo DeMarinis. He is survived by his wife Bruna of 57 years, daughters Marina (Louie) Bitonti, Margaret Sarazin, Olga (Michele) Bozzi, Rosanna (Stefano) Paludetto, Laura (Carmine) Sorace and Sandra (Daniele) Maccarrone, grandchildren Stefanie, Marco, Chantal, Ashley, Nicolas, Anthony, Allessandra, Alessia and Adam. Vincenzo is also survived by his brothers and sisters in Canada and Italy. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 1st at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver, B.C. In lieu of flowers donations to Canuck Place would be appreciated. Born December 25, 1923 in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy and passed away into the presence of the Lord on October 26, 2010. Alberto was predeceased by his wife Maria in 1997. He is survived by his loving family, son Raffaele (Sandra); grandsons Robert (Fatima) and Trevor; great granddaughters Isabella and Alessia; sister Marietta (Carmine); brother Carmine (Ida); niece Stefanie; nephew Giordan; sister-in-law Rosaria (Nicola) DiPalma; and many other nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, U.S.A. and Italy. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby. Entombment, The Abbey, Ocean View Burial Park. GRADECAK, Stjepan (Steve) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stefan Gradecak. Born in Mihovljan, Croatia on July 11, 1929 and died surrounded by his loving family on October 21, 2010 at Vancouver General Hospital. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years Stefica, daughter Cherry(Dave), son Michael(Wendy), grandchildren Trevor and Sony and many other relatives who were a meaningful part of his life. His unconditional love, kindness, generosity, wisdom, laughter and sense of humour will be intensely missed and forever remembered. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday October 29th at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Church, 3105 E. 1st Avenue, Vancouver B.C. Mary Elizabeth Newcomb

Mary was born in Dundalk, Ireland, and was predeceased by her parents George and Elizabeth Newcomb. She is survived by her brother Jim and her sister Frances (Sam) Cancilla, and nephew Frank, her dear friend and companion Kaye Jones, and many close friends. Mary came to Canada with her parents when she was five years old, and lived in Winnipeg until Kaye and she moved to British Columbia in the early 50’s, living most of the time in Burnaby. Mary was very active in St. Theresa’s Parish, as a member of the choir and organist, volunteer secretary, coordinator of Religious Education for children, and a member of the CWL and St. Vincent de Paul Society. She was very active in CWL for over 50 years, serving as parish President, and at the Diocesan and Provincial levels she was awarded Life Membership. Mary was Secretary/Accountant, then Manager of the St. Vincent de Paul Salvage Bureau. Prayers will be offered Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Parish, 5146 Laurel Street, Burnaby, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society would be greatly appreciated.

Laura passed away on October 25th, 2010 at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by her husband John Joseph Voitovick. She is survived by her loving family sons Jack (Lorna), James (Darlene); grandchildren Robert and Stephen. Special thank you to all the staff at Willingdon Care Centre. A celebration of Laura’s life will be held at a later date.

Born January 2, 1937 in Draga Baska, Croatia, passed away peacefully at St. James Cottage Hospice in Vancouver, BC on October 22, 2010 aged 73 years. He is survived by his loving wife Anne of 53 years, his two loving daughters, Sandra Stefanich and Maryann Rheaume, son-in-law Grant Rheaume and two grandchildren, Nicholas Rheaume and Michael Skibo and his wife Hanna. He also leaves behind his sister, Flora Derencinovic and her family. Mike came to Vancouver in June of 1957 in search of a better life and found it here in the fishing industry. He owned and operated the Sandy Ann fishing vessel and prospered with hard work and perseverance. He helped many people in gaining careers through his legacy. He will be sadly missed by many friends and relatives. We love you Mike, have a safe journey. A special thanks to all the staff at the St. James Cottage Hospice. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Celestin on October 21st , 2010, Burnaby B.C. Born April 6th, 1924 Crikvenica, Croatia. Son of Ivan and Tereza, brother of Albert (predeceased 1984). Survived by sister Ivana (Jenny) Bogunovic. Lovingly missed by his wife Gilda, his children Sandra (Lawrence) Thiessen, Gilbert (Donna) Somerville, Karen Curtis, and Michael (Julie) Radil; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in British Columbia and Alberta and relatives in Croatia and South America. Celestin was a loving and caring husband to Gilda and a wonderful father. A long time commercial fisherman; Captain of the Walter M, Theresa 1, Pacific Raider, Canadian No.1 and the Kathy R. Born in Montefredane, Italy on January 09, 1921, Ida died October 19, 2010 in Burnaby after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her daughters Maria (Marcello) & Anna, her grandchildren Kristina, Silvano (Dal), Adriana (Tony), her great-grandchildren Gianluca & Claudio, her brother Fiore (Dora) and many nieces and nephews. Prayers will be offered Monday October 25 at 8pm at Our Lady of Sorrows parish 525 Slocan St. Vancouver where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday October 26 at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park. In lieu of flowers a donation in Ida’s name to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Arthritis Society would be appreciated in honouring her memory.
Paul Theodore Godfrey

Paul was born and raised in London, England and passed away at Burnaby Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Lois, step-daughters Yvonne and Carie (Dan) and his 2 grand-daughters Annika and Kristen. Paul early on developed a lifelong love for the sea. He built his first boat while still a teen. Upon graduating from Technical school as a Marine Engineer, Paul enlisted in the Royal Navy as a Submariner in 1942. He served on several submarines in the North Sea and South Pacific where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. After the war Paul immigrated to Canada and settled in Vancouver, B.C. Here he built his second boat, the Finis. He joined the Gulf Yacht Club and spent much of his free time sailing the West Coast waters. Paul worked on several projects in the province over the years and eventually was hired by Westcoast Transmission in Vancouver, retiring in 1987. Paul was a brilliant and compassionate individual. He was known for his creativity, expertise with engines, love of story telling and kindness to all creatures great and small. He is dearly missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church, 1030 Sperling Street, Burnaby, B.C. Date and time to be announced. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if friends desire, donations to Burnaby Association Community Inclusion or the Burnaby S.P.C.A. would be appreciated.
