Marietta Cerra

Marietta Cerra

It is with saddened hearts and many tears that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother and Grandmother Marietta Cerra (Nonna). Surrounded by almost all of her family she died peacefully at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010. We are comforted in knowing that she has now reunited with her husband of 61 years, Luigi Cerra, who she missed greatly as he predeceased her by nine years.

Mama married on February 28, 1939 in Decollatura, Italy where she had her first son. She moved to France in 1950 where she had her second son and after immigrating to Canada in the summer of 1957 had her daughter. She was the best cook in the whole world and we will miss her cooking and her cooking classes. Her advice, though not always sought, was given out daily and, usually, happily taken, as she was always right. She just always knew. She was alert and feisty right to her very last day and she was our matriarch. She was 94 years old and, yet, kept all of us in line. She was the glue of our family and we will forever miss her.

She loved and is loved and remembered by her three children Giuseppe (Linda), Sandro (Sorya), and Liana (Saverio) as well as her cherished grandchildren Alita, Armando, Sandro, Delano, Erica (Ralph), Tania (Jake), Anthony and Ryan. She will also be missed by her brother-in-law, Giuseppe (Carmelina), and nieces Ornella and Julie as well as her sisters Merichina and Angelina (Mario) and her brother Armando (Silvia).

Mama (Nonna) your chair is now empty but your love continues to fill our hearts.

Rimanicon me, Signore, perchétisiafedele. Rimani con me, Signore, e con tutta la miafamiglia, perchepossiamovivereunitineltuo amore e un giorno, potremocantare le tuelodi per l’eternita.

Prayers will be offered at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2010 and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2010,both at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish located at 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver, BC.
