Jeanne Benoit grew up in Southern Alberta in a family of nine children. After the war, she married Richard Anderson in 1949. Together, they raised 3 girls and a boy, in towns in Alberta and BC: Vulcan, Dawson Creek, Sylvan Lake, and Saltspring Island, retiring to Langley in the 80s. Jeanne passed away at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Burnaby, where she had lived for the past year. She was known by everyone as a gentle-hearted, sociable, and quietly devout woman, and will be remembered as a devoted and loving Mother and Grandmother by her family. Her family and relatives will cherish our memories with her. Survived by a brother, Henry (Irene) of Ontario, her children Brenda (Geoff), Shelley and Brian (Masako), son-in-law Laurier, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Richard (2008), eldest daughter Arlene (1999), and seven siblings. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 pm Monday, January 4, 2010 at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings St Burnaby, BC. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to donate to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC. A Memorial Service will be scheduled for summer at Sylvan Lake Cemetery, Sylvan Lake, Alberta. After being diagnosed with cancer early this year ended her battle in the early afternoon of December 20, 2009. She is survived by her three children Mauro, Luana and Antonella and by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by many and remain always in our hearts. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver, BC. Ida Vendrasco (nee Battagin)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ida on December 28, 2009 at Burnaby Hospital. She was born on April 29, 1923 in San Zenone degli Ezzelini, Italy. She left Italy on December 26, 1963 and immigrated to Canada in 1964 with her children in tow to unite with her husband who had arrived 5 years previously. Predeceased by her husband, Mario. Ida is survived by her loving children, Vittorio (Noris), Antonia (Leo), Valerio (Patty), Bruno (Maria), Sonia (Jim) and Manuela (Livio). She also leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren, Jason (Nicole), Derek, David (Laura), Steve (Nancy), Jamie (Clara), Daniela, Michael, Stephanie, Jeremy (Tina), Adam, Bryan, Tanya, Brianna and Tyson; 8 great grandchildren Xavier, Taylor, Alexa, Dillan, Grace, Mattaus, Monica and Giovonni. Ida will be remembered for her compassion and generosity. She loved and respected everyone who loved and respected her in return. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby. Carmel Grippo

Carmel, a kind and loving person born in Troy, New York in 1907, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2009 at the age of 102 years. She is predeceased by her husband Dan, and son-in-law Remo. Carmel is survived by her daughter Catherine, son Anthony (Phyllis), sister-in-law Florence Andrews, and many nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States. Our mother’s wish was for a private service which was held December 23. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Michael’s Centre for their consideration and kindness throughout Carmel’s 3 year stay.

It is with much sadness that we say good-bye to Roy Ashton who passed away at Burnaby Hospital. Predeceased by his wife Thelma. He is survived by his extended family. Roy spent his working years with Canfor in New Westminster, B.C. In his leisure time he loved to travel with Thelma and work in his beautiful garden. Born June 14, 1923 in Amato, Catanzaro, Calabria, Italy. Passed away December 8, 2009 at Vancouver General Hospital. She is predeceased by her husband Giuseppe and lovingly remembered by her sons: Francesco (Giuseppina), Serafino (June), daughter Filomena (John) Giandomenico. Nanna will be missed by her 8 grandchildren: Joe (Asunta), Peter (Andrea), Dario (Nicole), Daniel, Sarah (Andrew) Bou-Antoun, Lisa, Christine (Alessandro) Pinzarrone, Jonathan Giandomenico and 6 great-granchildren, and brother Francesco (Francesca) Romeo. Concetta immigrated to Vancouver, with her husband and young family in 1967 where she worked and retired from Whitespot in 1980. She always worked hard for the well-being of her family. She loved to cook, entertain family gatherings, and visit with her grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the nurses and all the staff at St. Vincent Langara hospital for all of the wonderful care they provided Nanna during her time there.
