Sergio Poldrugovac

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sergio Poldrugovac (May 2, 1942 to October 4, 2009) who passed suddenly from a heart attack while fishing with friends near Quadra Island, British Columbia. He is predeceased by his father Josip, and brother Vladimir. He is survived by his wife Jelica, son Robert, daughter Sylvia (Matthew), grandchildren Holden and Delilah, mother Ana, sisters Maria (Bruno) and Sonia, sister-in-law Edmee and nieces and nephews. Born in Labin, Croatia, Sergio moved to Montreal in 1962, where he worked as a machinist. He eventually settled to the Pacific coast where he spent five decades in the commercial fishing industry and participated in numerous business ventures. Prayers will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Catholic Church on Thursday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral will be at the church on Friday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. Service to follow at Ocean View Cemetery in Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Vasculitis Foundation of Canada.

Leda (known to all as Lina) passed away peacefully with family by her side. She was born in Celano, Abruzzo, Italy. Predeceased by her beloved husband Romeo in 1991, sister Arnalda and brothers Giuseppe and Oreste. Survived by her loving family, Gabriel (Florinda) Rosati, Elvira (Angelo) Carelli and Mary (Tony) Paolino, grandchildren Peter Rosati (Krista Gordon), Paolo Rosati, Olivia (Nick) Paladino, Tania (Pavle) Erceg, Nadia Paolino and Roman and Sandro Carelli, great-grandchild Joel Gabriel Paladino, sister Pia (Argento) and sister-in-law Iole both in Vancouver, sisters Maria, Bice and Emma in Italy and brother Loreto in Venezuela, as well as many other nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13th at St. Francis of Assisi, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver, B.C. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Abbey. BIFULCO, Lucia passed away on October 7, 2009 at the age of 63 years. She is predeceased by brothers Mario, Michele and Gavino and sister Maria. Charles (Chuck) Shayler was a good man. He always cared for others and had the ability to make people feel special. Chuck passed away at home in the early hours of October 4, 2009. He is predeceased by his wife Gloria (2002) and daughter Sharon (1994). He is survived by his sons Bill (Myra) and John (Chris), grand children Tom (Sue), Michelle (Glenn), Donna (Tasha), Laura (Mark), Lisa, and Lee, eight great grand children, and his brothers Ed and Don. Chuck was born in Winnipeg where he grew up in a large family. He moved to Vancouver in 1939 and joined the Canadian Armed Forces, rising to the rank of Sergeant. In 1944, he married the love of his life, Gloria Errico, began his job with the B.C. Electric as a streetcar motorman, and soon became a father. In Chuck’s words: “He lived the best of lives.” He was loved by many and will be greatly missed, but his goodness, caring, humour, and a twinkle in his eyes will live on in others. The family wishes to express our special thanks to the residents and staff of Seton Villa for their friendship, support and care. Chuck requested that no formal funeral services be held.

Ferruccio passed away peacefully with family and friends by his side. He was born and raised in Chiampo, Vicenza, Italy. Predeceased by his parents Massimina Costalunga and Domenico Facchin, sister Ida Dal Cengio, brothers Luigi, Primo and Guiseppe and cousin Antonio Facchin. With great sadness we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Antonio Fiorante, born on April 25, 1926 in Civitanova del Sannio, Italy. Antonio is predeceased by his beloved grandson Tony Angelo Faccone, his beloved daughter Anna Mary Faccone and his sister Ines Fiorda of Toronto. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years Amerina; son Clorindo; daughter Luciana (Luigi) Marzitelli; son-in-law Luigi Faccone; grandchildren Marco (Lucia) Faccone, David (Daun) Fiorante, Lisa Fiorante, Angela, Joe and Marco Marzitelli; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Marina and Anthony; his sisters Letizia (Gino) Ditomaso, Maria (Luigi) Bevilacqua, Nella Fiorante, Suor Maria Giulia Fiorante of Italy; his brother Benedetto Fiorante and many nieces and nephews. Antonio immigrated to Canada in 1951 and was later joined by his wife and family in 1954. Antonio worked at B.C. Ice and Cold Storage for 21 years, until his retirement. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 525 Slocan Street. Entombment, to follow at Ocean View Burial Park. The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at the Dialysis Unit of Vancouver General Hospital who cared for Antonio for the past 17 months. Alfi De BIASIO

On Friday, October 2, 2009 our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend Alfi De Biasio passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side. He fought a very courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and gave it everything he had until the end. Alfi was born to Albino and Fiametta on March 13, 1938 in Trail, BC where he still has many close friends and family. Alfi had many adventures and his zest for life, family and friends was contagious. Alfi was a proud Vancouver Fire Fighter for 34 years and also a very active member in the Firefighter’s Band (1927). His many loves included his lakeside cottage, making wine, hockey, and skiing with his brother and friends. Alfi is survived by Shirley, his wife of 43 years, daughters Corinne and Christine, brother Rino (Grace), sister Eileen (Albert) Holm, many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Agency would be appreciated. A celebration of Alfi’s life will be held on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. at the Firefighters Social and Athletic Club at 6515 Bonsor in Burnaby.

Lou Moro

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Paolo Moro.
Lou was born on April 26th, 1918 in Savona, Italy and died at Burnaby Hospital on September 30th, 2009. He is predeceased by his wife Virginia and leaves behind their 4 adult children, Joanne Bydal, Marilyn Cowie (John), Greg (Marnie), Larry (Darcel) as well as 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Lou immigrated to Trail, BC at the age of 11. He excelled as an athlete especially as a goaltender in lacrosse. He served in the Canadian Navy during WW II. During his service he played goal for the United Services Lacrosse Team. He was also the Athletic Trainer for the Navy hockey team. Lou’s profession was as a fancy sausage maker, but his love was working with sports teams. His work in Soccer and Lacrosse, as an athletic trainer, has been acknowledged with his 8 inductions in 5 different Halls of Fame, including the Canadian Lacrosse, Soccer and BC Sports Halls of Fame. His service to Canadian Soccer, the Vancouver Whitecaps and 86er’s as well as the Vancouver Carlings lacrosse organization have left him with many true friends. Add his community work with numerous sports teams and you have a man who volunteered his time unselfishly for over 50 years. Family and friends were what made him the happiest. His open house on Boxing Day was always a highlight. Lots of food and drink, songs and laughter made lasting memories for all. After turning 91 Lou still had the best garden on the block and enjoyed driving to Brentwood to walk and visit with all the people who he would see there.
He left a legacy to be proud of and he will be missed! Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 9th 11:00 AM at St Helen’s Church 3860 Triumph St. Burnaby. Born June 9 1936, in France passed away suddenly September 19, 2009. Pietro, a great host, who worked for Fletcher’s Fine Foods until his retirement was a carefree, jovial character who was loved by all he met. He was predeceased by his wife Esterina, and sisters Maria and Monica (his twin). He is survived by his loving family, sons Tony (Kathy) and Robie (Sandra): grandchildren Courtney, Gavin and Brayden and his sister Ninetta
