Karl Kramer
It is with great sadness and endless love that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. After a courageous battle with cancer and kidney complications, Karl passed away peacefully on September 5, 2009. His last few hours were spent with family and friends reminiscing about his life, laughing and talking about his favorite foods and drink. Karl will be remembered for his resilience, selflessness, kindness, wonderful sense of humour and will be deeply missed by all. He was survived by his loving wife, Olga, his daughter Dorothy (Ignace), sons Ken (Cora), Rick (Carmela) and his brothers and family in Germany. He especially adored his grandchildren, Petra, Tom, Jacob, Madeleine and Ava and cherished every moment spent with them. Karl came to Canada at the age of 19 years and worked very hard to build a great life for his family and himself. He retired as a longshoreman in 2002 after a 42 year career and was a proud and active member of the ILWU Local 500. Many thanks to the team at VGH for their loving care. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 525 Slocan Street, Vancouver, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to Muscular Dystrophy Canada or the Autism Society of BC would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com.

While we never had the pleasure of meeting Karl personally. We did read the wonderful tribute in the Vancouver Sun and when it spoke of resilience, selflessness, kindness, wonderful sense of humour and committment to family, you surely could also have been speaking of those same qualities in Rick. Obviously Karl was a wonderful role model for the next generation of Kramer’s and what greater legacy can any man leave.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this very emotional period.

It does not seem very long ago since we saw your father at one of the football games, Ken. We were sadden to learn that your father was ill, and can only imagine how much he will be missed by family and friends. We attended the Muscular Dystrophy Chapter Christmas Party for many years, and your Dad, Mom and yourself, Ken, was always there. Olga, what a void Karl’s passing will cause in your life! Our prayers and thoughts are with you, Ken and Olga, and to the rest of your family. I always thought what a wonderful man Karl was, whenever our paths crossed. Karl has enriched so many lives.
