Carmine Sorace

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing on September 27, 2009 of our loving husband, father, and grandfather Carmine Sorace, age 85, born May 10, 1924.  Predeceased by his parents Carmine and Concetta Sorace, his brothers Antonio, Giuseppe, and Vincenzo, his sister Maria, his granddaughter Melina, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Giuseppe and Teresa Gallo, his sister- and brother-in-laws Teresa and Pietro Anania, Alfonso, and Pietro Gallo.  He is lovingly survived by his wife Carmela of 58 years, daughters Mary Guglielmucci (Pasquale), Teresa Sorace (Domenico), Stella Brancati (Tony), Rosanna Luongo (Elio), Gisella Napoleone (Carmelo), and sons Carmine (Laura) and Joe (Sheerin), his 16 grandchildren Massimo, Marianna, Carmine, Caterina, Josie, Carmelita, Antonio, Andrea, Domenic, Stefano, Carmela, Joseph, Marie, Carmelo, Carmine Nicolas, and Allessandra, and his sister Concetta Fontana and sister-in-law Carmela Sorace, brothers- and sisters-in-laws Antonio and Franca Gallo, Luigi and Maria Napoletano, Joe and Concettina Padovano, Carlo and Loreta Gallo, Vittorio and Pina Mauro, Ferdinando and Vittoria Colavecchio, Linda Gallo, many nieces and nephews, and his lifelong friend Giuseppe Delgiglio.  Prayers offered Friday, October 2 at 8:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 555 Slocan St., Vancouver.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 3 at 10:00 am.  Entombment will be at the Abbey Ocean View Burial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Anna Ida Cividin

September 28, 2009

Ida lived in her own home until March 2009 along with the assistance of loving Care Aides and the continued support of her entire family. On September 3, 2009 she was hospitalized for a third episode of pneumonia in six months. Ida passed away September 23 at the age of 92. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Gelindo (1988) and cherished granddaughter, Michelle (2007). Survived by devoted children Franca (Daniele), Renzo (Jo), Rita (Rino), 5 grandchildren Karen (Helmut), Suzanne (Mike), Paul, Jennifer (Steve), Lauren, 8 great grandchildren Julia, Angelo, Tadi, Alyx, Aaron, Samuel, Daniel, Sophie, as well as many relatives, nieces, nephews and dear friends in Canada, Italy, Australia and France. Until her late 80’s “Nonna” often started her day at 5am with bread making, followed by gardening, cooking and sewing. She took delight in sharing the gifts of her labour. She was truly an inspiration to all of us. Her love of flowers, music and unwavering faith gave her great joy and support during her final days. We wish to thank the Doctors and staff of 3D at Burnaby General Hospital for their compassionate care, as well as the supportive staff at Fellburn Care Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 2, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. from Holy Cross Catholic Church 1450 Delta Ave., Burnaby. Interment Ocean View Burial Park. Albert Mercurio

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Mercurio at the age of 76 years. Albert was born in Francavilla, Abruzzi, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He met and married his soul mate Elsie who predeceased him in 1991. He lived in Vancouver and spent most of his widowed years enjoying the serenity of Green Lake. Albert is lovingly remembered by his brothers, Guy (Mary), Mike (Sharon); sisters, Maria (Felice), Gabriella (Benito); brothers-in-law Norm (Marion), Charles and sister-in-law Edna; many nieces and nephews. Albert was a caring and committed husband, son, brother, uncle and dear friend to many. He will be missed by all who were touched by him and will now be forever reunited with his loving wife Elsie. Pedro Araya

Pedro, 67, was born in Valparaiso, Chile on November 18, 1941 and passed away on September 16, 2009 In Vancouver. Pedro’s ingredients for life: live in the moment, surround yourself with family, friends, laughter, music, dance, and great food. He will be deeply missed and remembered with a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eyes.

Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday September 23 at 11am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 525 Slocan St. Vancouver, with reception to follow.

Irvano Pietro Moscone

We lost a part of our heart when Irvano Pietro Moscone passed away peacefully with all his family by his side, September 14, 2009. He was a loving husband to wife Angiolina and the best dad to daughters Luciana (John) and Antonella. He was predeceased by his mother Vienna and brothers Tony and Vincenzo. He leaves behind to mourn his brother Angelo (Maria), sister-in-law Giulietta, many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to his nephew Johnny for being there every step of his long hard journey, Pureza his caregiver and the doctors and nurses at St. Paul’s ICU Unit for all their special care. We will miss you daddy and you will always be with us.  Visitation for the family and friends will be held between 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18th at the Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby, B.C. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Antonio (Tony) Funaro on September 9, 2009 at Burnaby General Hospital. Born July 29, 1938 in Grimaldi, (Cosenza) Italy, Tony is survived by his loving family, wife Lilia, sons Lino (Jennifer) and Paolo (Rachelle); his siblings, Irma (Francesco) Cuzzetto, Raffaelle (Anna) Funaro, Joe (Joan) Funaro, Anita (Mario) Occhiuzzi, and Silvana (Pino) Pietramala and his nieces, nephews, family members and many friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Pasqualino and Maria Funaro and his sister, Nilde (Antonio) Maio. He showed tremendous strength, courage, and acceptance in handling his illness, and was an inspiration to us all. His kind soul will be greatly missed and his spirit will live on through all who have been touched by him. ‘Toto’ your sense of humour, zest of life and dedication to your family, friends and community will be missed by all. We wish our time with you could have been so much longer. Left behind is his loving wife Rosa, son Simiro (Taymarah), grandchilden Frank (Sarah), Selina (Jonathon) and Katrina, 6 great grand children, sister Romelia, brothers Luigi (Agnese) and Victorio (Gina), many nieces, nephews and friends in the East Vancouver Community. Karl Kramer

It is with great sadness and endless love that we announce the passing of a loving  husband, father, grandfather and brother.  After a courageous battle with cancer and kidney complications, Karl passed away peacefully on September 5, 2009.   His last few hours were spent with family and friends reminiscing about his life, laughing and talking about his favorite foods and drink.  Karl will be remembered for his resilience, selflessness, kindness, wonderful sense of humour and will be deeply missed by all.  He was survived by his loving wife, Olga, his daughter Dorothy (Ignace), sons Ken (Cora), Rick (Carmela) and his brothers and family in Germany.  He especially adored his grandchildren, Petra, Tom, Jacob, Madeleine and Ava and cherished every moment spent with them.  Karl came to Canada at the age of 19 years and worked very hard to build a great life for his family and himself.  He retired as a longshoreman in 2002 after a 42 year career and was a proud and active member of the ILWU Local 500.  Many thanks to the team at VGH for their loving care.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 525 Slocan Street, Vancouver, B.C. Born Altilia, Cosenza Calabria, Italy on December 13, 1948, passed peacefully Burnaby, British Columbia on September 8, 2009.  Predeceased by his father Giovanni in 2003.  Lovingly remembered by his wife Lucia, mother Carmela, son Giovanni, daughters Angela (Anthony) Pezzolla and Carina; sisters Lina (Frank) Romano and Olga (Carmelo) Repole; brother Silvano (Maria); numerous nephews, nieces and friends.  Beloved husband and loving father, “Lu” was known for his busy hands and commitment to detail in all he did.  Although his passing has left a tremendous void in our hearts his calm and quiet guidance is with us always.  In God’s hands, our love is with you forever.  Prayers will be offered Monday, September 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 525 S.
