Helmut Joseph Halfar
As the sun rose, Helmut Joseph Halfar aged 74 passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 28, 2009 in the comfort of his own home. Helmut was born on March 1, 1935 in Germany to Albina and Helmut and at the age of 5 he fled to Florida to escape WWII. An accomplished man and self proclaimed “workaholic”, Helmut was a Structural Engineer, architect, developer and real testate mogul – truly the jack of all trades. Although he possessed a “business man” type mentality and showed tough love to his children, he truly was a devoted, sincere and selfless man who sacrificed all that he possibly could for his family to ensure their futures. Helmut will always be remembered for his “Photographic” memory, painfully honest persona and independence up to the day he died. Although Helmut loved life, he always made it known that “nothing in life was free”. During his last years, Helmut’s health took a toll on him as he underwent a triple by-pass, stroke, and numerous heart attacks. Although he put up a good fight, he finally lost his courageous battle with cancer. Helmut is lovingly remembered by his wife Albina, son Joseph, daughter Mary, son-in-law Michael and grandson Zachary. Friends and Family are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Holy Cross Catholic Parish, 1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby, BC at 12:00 pm with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Burnaby, BC.
