SLAVIN – RONALD EDWARD
1932 – 2009

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend Ronald Edward Slavin. Ron was born on February 14, 1932 in Vancouver and passed away peacefully at Burnaby Hospital on April 10, 2009 with his wife at his side. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and May Slavin, sister Mary Margaret Wegner, daughter-in-law Roslynn Slavin and his cousin Charles Bonner. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy; children Brent Slavin (Katrina), Kelly Slavin (Keith) and Tony Slavin; grandchildren Robert, Stefan, Amanda, Christopher, Krisandra, Michael and Samantha; cousin Michael Buckley (Kim) of Ireland and other family and friends. Ron was a third generation funeral director and owner of Burnaby Funeral Directors and Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel. He will be remembered for his professionalism and compassion by the many families he served. He was proud to serve on the board of directors for the B.C. Funeral Service Association, the Canadian Independent Group of Funeral Homes and various other community groups including Kiwanis and the Heights Merchant Association. Ron was a Past Commander of the Burnaby Power Squadron and enjoyed spending time on the local waters fishing with his friends Ken Flekke and Jim McLennan. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Bell & Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby on Friday, April 17, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at St. Helen’s Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby. Entombment to follow at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Ron’s memory to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. April 9, 1922April 8, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an amazing husband and father, George on Wednesday April 8th, 2009 in Richmond, B.C., George was born in Vukovar, Croatia and immigrated to Richmond in May 1961.  Worked at C P Air for 16 years before retiring in 1985.  Predeceased by his parents in Croatia and his sister Marija in Canberra, Australia.  Survived by his wife Theresia and children Emil (friend Jane), Edith (Vinko), grandchildren Ante, Martina (Michael), Nephew George Peradenic wife Maria, their children Tony (Krista), Lisa (children Nathan and Michael), Amy (Rui Miguel) and Elena.  Nephew Mirko (Marija) and family, Niece Adela (Aldo) and family in Australia. .  Milko (Ljerka) and family in Zagreb, Croatia.  Marinko (Marija) and family in Stuttgart, Germany.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Croatian Catholic Church with entombment at Ocean View Burial Park.  The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and thanks to the staff on 3 North & Palliative Care at Richmond Hospital for their thoughtful and tender care throughout his illness.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Richmond Hospital Palliative Care Unit, B.C. Leonard Peter Buonassisi

March 26, 1941April 07, 2009 passed peacefully in the presence of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.  Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Maria and Luigi Buonassisi.  Much loved and greatly missed by wife Anne, sister Lucia Bondi, brothers Sam (Jeanette), Peter (Andrea), many cherished nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, many cousins in Canada, the US and Italy and many long time friends that were such an important part of his life.  His absence will be no doubt be noticed by the many customers at the Hardware Store where he worked for many years with his brother Sam as well as by all the Commercial Drive residents that were accustomed to seeing him on his daily walks.  We would like to thank all the wonderful people associated with his care over the past few months, Dr. Stuart and staff at the Cancer Center at Burnaby Hospital; all the Home Care Nursing staff, especially Lisa; the Palliative Care staff, especially Dawna and the wonderful nurses at St. Michael’s Hospice during his very brief stay there.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church 555 South Slocan Street, Vancouver, BC.   In lieu of flowers, donations in Leonard’s name to the St. Michael’s Hospice or Burnaby Cancer Center would be appreciated.

Maria Luisa May 29, 1911 – April 03, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Luisa, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully at Mt. St. Joseph Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Alfonso on June 3, 2003 and her son Giovanni on June 26, 1966. Maria Luisa will be deeply missed by her sons and daughter, Luigi (Maria), Rita (Giovanni) Bruno, Daniele (Maria Pia), Franco and daughter-in-law Pierina, along with her 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Prayers service will be held Tuesday, April 7th at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 525 Slocan Street, Vancouver, B.C. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 8th at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, Abbey Mausoleum, Burnaby, B.C. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Steve Balic on Saturday, March 28, 2009.  Born August 6, 1940 in Katuni, Croatia, he was surrounded and embraced by his family at the time of his passing.  He is deeply loved by Loredana and daughters Adriana and Tanja (Tony Ruic).  Predeceased by his father Mijo and mother Marica, he is survived by his brothers Bob (Maria), Andre (Angela), Ante (Karmela) and his sisters Maria, Anka (Nedo) and Mila.  Steve was adored and will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was a remarkable person and his dedication and commitment to family, his infectious, jovial personality and his generous heart will be forever engraved in our hearts.   Warmest thanks are extended to the nurses at Burnaby General Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit for their love, care and attention to our father.  Prayers will be offered Monday, April 6, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Helen’s Church 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby with Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. followed by Entombment at the South Mausoleum, Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby.  Condolences may be offered to the family at www.bellburnaby.com.

 Carlo was born on October 11, 1924 in Montebelluna, Italy and passed away on March 29, 2009 with family by his side.  Carlo was predeceased by his wife Erminia (1990) and all seven of his siblings.  He is survived and will be missed by his son Ben (Elisabeth) of Newmarket, Ontario, daughters Carmen and Ele (Tom) of Vancouver, and grandchildren Erica, Elena, Julia, Jennifer, Brandon and Anthony and other family and friends in Vancouver, Ontario, Italy and Argentina.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3rd at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 3860 Triumph Street, Burnaby.  Rev. December 24, 1927 – March 28, 2009 Our precious Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandma, Great-Grandma (G.G.) and friend, passed away peacefully at Burnaby General Hospital March 28, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug and sisters, Anita and June. She is survived by her children Judy, Paul and Deana/Nancy, granddaughter Stacy, great-grandchildren Gabriel and Matthew and sister Inez. We all hold such great loving memories of her in our hearts. You will be sadly missed. You fought a great fight. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Grandview Calvary Baptist Church, 1803 E. 1st Avenue, Vancouver. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Claire and Ceranie for the loving care they gave our Mother over the past eleven months.
