March 15, 1915 – April 26, 2009 Peacefully at 94 years of age our Dad passed away at George Derby Centre. Predeceased by brothers Arthur and Leonard. Survived by wife Peggy (nee Rowan) daughters Sharon Mortimer (Bob) of Vancouver, daughter Anne Gore and son Steve Gore, both of Langley; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Born and raised in New Westminster, Dad was a member of the Royal City Concert Band in the 1930’s conducted by Lieut. C.J. Cornfield. Following the war he lived in West Vancouver, had a cabin on Hollyburn Ridge – skiing and hiking; became a life member of the Alpine Club of Canada. Owned and operated a lumber yard in Burnaby and was a co-founder of the Irly Bird Group of Lumber Yards. With early retirement he took up farming in S.E. Langley and with family raised Reg. Polled Hereford cattle. In the mid 80’s became a world traveller; cycled in New Zealand, P.E.I. and Gaspe Peninsula, Ireland, Denmark and Finland; trekked in Nepal; hiked in Switzerland, S. England and West Coast Trail; rafted the Grand Canyon; canoed the Peace River; safaried in Kenya; horse pack trips in S. Chilcotins; travelled to China, Thailand, Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Jamaica and Club Med Morocco. Heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers of George Derby Centre who provided remarkable care and kindness to our Dad. Cremation has taken place. No service by request. In his memory take a moment to reflect on conversations and activities shared and raise a toast to a life well-lived.

August 22nd, 1933 – April 28th, 2009Beloved and loving husband, father and grandfather, Iain was born in Manchester, England, and educated at Manchester Grammar School. Graduating from the Turner Dental School of Manchester University in 1959, Iain commenced practice in Macclesfield, and then immigrated to Canada in 1969, where he established his office in North Burnaby. He was a keen supporter of Vancouver and District Dental Society. An avid skier, he served a term as Alpine Chairman of Whistler Mountain Ski Club, and BC J1 and J2 Division chairman. He was a sailing instructor, a waterskier, and a glider pilot. Dad loved his garden, especially his collection of Azaleas and Rhododendrons. Iain is lovingly remembered by Barbara, his wife and best friend of 44 years, his three sons, Angus (Kumiko), Gavin (Sara), and Fraser (Fabiola); grandchildren, Taiyo, Jamie, Sophie, Ruby, and Lucia; also, cousin Donald and family in Yorkshire, sister-in-law Jane and niece Annalivia in Ireland and cousin Sheila and family in Devon. Many thanks to Drs. Van Aggelen, Lakha and Klimo, and all the nursing staff. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 1300 at St. Francis-in-the-Wood in West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
Evelyn “Eve” Chester

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn “Eve” Chester.
She passed away peacefully at the Fellburn Care Facility on April 21st at 2:10p.m. with her daughters Lesley and Lynne at her side.
She was much loved by her family and friends and all who came in contact with her and she will be greatly missed.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Stanley Chester and survived by her daughters Lesley Court and Lynne Holmes, her son-in-law Mark Holmes, her cherished grandchildren Lucas Riley and Shelby Lynne, and her extended family and many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the nurses and caregivers at Fellburn Care Facility for the outstanding care, love and kindness they provided to Eve in her final months.
A celebration of her life will be held on May 6th at 1p.m. at 4353 Halifax Street in Burnaby, to be followed by a reception at the same location. All those wishing to pay their respects and bid Eve farewell are warmly invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made on her behalf to the Fellburn Care Facility and the Burnaby SPCA.

Born September 18, 1927 in Campodimele, Italy, passed away on April 28, 2009. Predeceased by her husband Mario in 2004 and her sister Iolanda. She is survived by her children: Eugenia (Biagio), Ernestina (Onorato), Beniamino (Julia); grandchildren: Angelina, Anna, Mario, Michael, Sandra, Alexander and Andrea; great grandchildren: Trevor, Emily, Emily Ann, Marcus, Daniela and Matthew. Born October 17, 1930, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully on April 15, 2009 at Royal Columbian Hospital at the age of 78 years. Predeceased by her husband Douglas, son Ronald and sister Mary. Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her sons Brian (Brenda), Tim; grandchildren Brock and Dallas; brother Ray (Elnora); and numerous nieces, nephews and family and friends. Dorothy was a long time member of Confederation Seniors Center and enjoyed her Bridge games with her many friends over the years. Franco was born in Montorso, (Vicenza) Italy. He served in the Alpini Corps and was an active member of the Alpini Club. He had many accomplishments in his life but was most proud of his family. He married Cecilia in 1952 and moved to Canada with his wife and son (Doriano) in 1965. Franco was renowned for his stone masonry work. His mastery in his craft took him many places including Iran, Switzerland, and Bahamas. His workmanship remains his legacy in many places, such as the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Victoria Museum, and St Helen’s Church. He also owned various businesses over the years, Slocan Grocery, Photo Monte Grappa, and Ital Marble. A former Canadian Bocce Champion. He won many awards and trophies while competing in bocce tournaments. Franco was predeceased by his wife Cecilia in 2007 and his sisters Vittoria and Maria. He is survived by his son Doriano (Janet), his grandchildren Enrico, John and Marco. He is also survived by his brothers Rino (Teresa), Manuela, Antonio (Rosa), and Mario (Italia) and his sister Franca, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Royal Columbian Hospital, Charles Paqueo passed away on Thursday April 16, 2009 at the age of 59. Charles will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Del, sons Carlo, Francis(Charlene), Dan, granddaughter Ava and extended family and friends. A selfless family man, Charles was always there to help others, while expecting nothing in return. He devoted his spare time to community services such as the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, Families for Christ Community and different church and parish involvement.
