Franklyn Foster

Born in Fernie on April 21, 1914 to Iestyn and Annie Foster, the youngest of three children, and passed away on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the age of 94 years. While serving in the RCAF during wartime he met and married his first wife, Ruth Dixon, then returned to Nanaimo. Franklyn moved to North Vancouver where he taught at Delbrook High School from 1957 to 1977. Ruth died in 1963 and in 1969 he married Oonagh Joy James. Upon retirement at age 62 he started a love affair with the mountains, still rock climbing and exploring new routes into his 90′s with his hiking group known as the Mocha Crowd. Franklyn will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Joy, sons Michael (Elizabeth) and Marcus (Sharon), stepdaughter Anne Gosse (Bill), grandchildren Karen and Shannon Foster, Alex and Richard Gosse, and many friends. No service by request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The North Shore Rescue Team Society at 147 E. 14th Street, North Vancouver V7L 2N4, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
