Born December 15, 1924 in Bitritto, Bari, Italy passed away February 22, 2009. Angela was predeceased by her husband Salvatore in 2001. She is survived by her loving family, sons John (Carol) and Mike (Lynda); grandchildren, Juanita, Andrew, Toni, Jennifer; great grandchildren Savannah, Malia, Michaela, Tao, Ethan and Olivia and other relatives in Toronto, France and Italy. Prayers will be offered at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 2025 Napier St., Vancouver where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Entombment, The Abbey, Ocean View Burial Park. Elvira Veltri (nee Maio)

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 20th at the age of 90. She was born in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy on January 3, 1919. She is predeceased by her loving husband Augusto of 62 years. Elvira is survived by her loving family, children: Francesca (Tony Magnone), Vetulia (Joseph Niccoli), Robert (Rose Ann) Veltri, Mario Veltri, Joe (Mary Louise) Veltri. Grandchildren: Deborah (Brad Johnson), Patrick Niccoli, Tamara (Greg Banks), Michael (Kristina) Veltri, Adriana Veltri, Natalie Veltri, Steven Veltri. Great-grandchildren: Michela Banks, Marisa and Rocco Johnson, Gabriella Veltri. Also many nieces and nephews both in Canada and Italy. Elvira will be remembered for her quiet, unassuming manner, her sweet smile, her generosity and open heart but mostly for her love, care and devotion to her family. Prayers will be Tuesday, February 24th at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, February 25th at 11:00 a.m. St. Helen’s Church, 3874 Pandora St., Burnaby. January 9, 1945 – February 15, 2009It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother Sophia. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Kyriakos, sons Andreas (Ippolita) and Nickos, granddaughters Anna-Sofia, and Gabriella and many extended family and friends. She was the fourth child of seven born in Thermisia, Argolidos, Greece. Sophia adored her family and her grandaughters were the greatest joy in her life. She had a heart of gold and put everyone’s needs before her own. Always with her warm smile and open arms, she welcomed everyone in her home and we always enjoyed her unforgettable cooking. For those of us that have been blessed to have had Sophia in our lives know that angels do exist on earth. September 30, 1923 – February 13, 2009 Our beloved Mother passed away peacefully wth her family by her side. She is predeceased by her husband, Leonardo, her sister and 2 brothers. She will be sadly missed by her beloved children; daughters Josie (Joe) and Maria (Nick) Parente, sons Mike (Rhonda) and Rico, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mamma was born in Biccari, Foggia, Italy and immigrated with her family to Canada in 1958. With her trust in God she devoted her life to family, friends and community. Mom was a hard working woman who loved to cook and garden. Our parents home was always filled with love, laughter and food. Our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother leaves us with so many cherished memories. Thank you to Dr. G. Lorenzon and the Home Support Staff of GVCS & VGH for all their compassionate care.
